Socilization & Identity
Project Description:
In the Socialization and Identity project we learned about different people identities and how we have been socialized in this world. We learned about different identity categories, which are categories that you were born into and socialized that way. Some examples of this are; Race, Gender, Age, and Economic Class. We learned and based our exhibition around the “Cycle of Socialization”. This is the cycle that each individual person goes through in their life. Based on who you are and what identity categories you are put into determine how you move through the cycle. The end results were too have a mask you made yourself to show who you are as a person. You also had an essay about socialization. It could have been about how you were socialized, the pros and cons of some identities. Student had the freedom to write about what they want and give their own opinions. The exhibition was a tour through the cycle. Each room was decorated by the students and each room was a stage of the cycle. Community members would walk through the cycle, learning about how they have been socialized. In the end the members would have to give their own opinion on how we as a community could make a change to the cycle.
